DANIEL MELNIKOV

R&D Engineer

Edge AI · IoT · Robotics

I build the software that runs where hardware meets the real world, enabling systems that tie sensors to decisions.

What I Work On

Embedded Firmware

Bare-metal and RTOS on ARM, PowerPC, ESP32. From processor boot sequences to ultra-low-power sensor nodes.

Edge AI & ML

On-device inference with TFLite Micro and PyTorch. Real-time detection and classification where latency and power budgets are tight.

IoT & Systems Integration

End-to-end architectures: sensing, compute, connectivity (BLE, WiFi, MQTT, LoRa), and the software that makes it useful.

Projects

Eurorack Modular Synthesizer

I design and build synthesizer modules across three paradigms: MCU firmware (DSP on embedded platforms), FPGA gateware (real-time audio in HDL), and analog circuits (hand-soldered on protoboard). Recent builds include a germanium diode asymmetric wavefolder and a Vactrol-based asymmetric waveshaper. It's a personal lab for exploring how analog, digital, and programmable logic interact through voltage as a shared interface.

Demoscene Sizecoding

I make visual demos in ≤140 characters of JavaScript. Starfields, matrix rain, abstract geometries, procedural textures: all generated from extremely compressed math and syntax. The constraint forces you to find new solutions to problems you thought you understood and recombine what you've learned to squeeze more out of fewer characters.

About

I enjoy making the whole thing live: an enterprise mainframe processor that boots, a retail shelf sensor that classifies within human reaction time, a custom synth module that transforms sound. I work at whichever layer needs attention to get there.
